Bethany Tatum

MFT Associate

Hello! I’m Bethany. I am a born and raised Pacific Northwesterner. I started my journey in the world of mental health at Whitworth University in Spokane, WA where I studied Psychology. From there, I moved to Seattle and began my studies in Marriage and Family Therapy at Antioch University, Seattle. I have always enjoyed working with and around people, whether that be serving coffee, running an elementary after school program, or in the therapy space. I have been working as a therapist in September 2020 and I love working with my clients!

I believe that engaging in therapy, at its core, means working towards finding balance that leads to contentment and peace. Balancing ideals like acceptance and change, independence and togetherness, contentment and growth, vulnerability and safety, things that that seem at odds with each other, can be extremely difficult. When we are out of balance due to trauma and other factors, this is when we struggle most with our mental health.

As a family therapist, I see relationships and systems of people as the primary foundation for finding this balance. The therapeutic relationship is one type of healing relationship that is based on trust, unconditional positive regard, and mutual desire for growth. I also work with relationships within families and/or chosen families to help facilitate more effective ways of being with others and to foster secure connections that create space for healing inside and outside of the therapy room. I find incredible joy in getting to witness my clients learn, grow, connect, and find their strength. I feel honored to be trusted with each of my client’s stories.

I am trained from a systemic perspective and I have also received specific training in EMDR, Collaborative Problem Solving, Gottman Level 1, and other trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
